Horse Podcast Ep 86: The EQA Book Club: Your Next Favourite Book

Equestrian Adventuresses Travel and Horse Podcast Ep 86 - The EQA Book Club

The January episode of the EQA book club. If you love books, this is the perfect place for you. Once a month, Heather, Ute and sometimes Krystal, will talk about their favourite horsey book. Today Ute introduces the book “For the Love of Horses” by Kelly Wilson, a horse trainer, photographer and writer from New Zealand. The book is an autobiography and tells the story of the Wilson Sisters and their journey to save the wild Kaimanawa horses. As a bonus feature, Ute has spoken to the author about her book and Kelly Wilson tells as a lot about the background of her story and how she managed to get her first book published. Many more have followed ever since and Kelly Wilson is today a well-known author and photographer, having written a total of sixteen books.

For the Love of Horses by Kelly Wilson

Saving New Zealand’s Wild Horses

Which girl has not dreamed about taming and riding wild horses? For Kelly Wilson and her sisters this dream has become reality. Every year they adopt several Kaimanawa horses from the wild, tame and re-home them. The autobiography For the Love of Horses tells the story of how the three sisters grew up on the North Island of New Zealand, how they had their first horses and how they learned the basic skills of horse riding and training the hard way. Their parents were unable to afford expensive show ponies, so the sisters had to do with ponies and horses nobody else wanted. This experience taught them a lot and when they learned about the fate of the Kaimanawa horses who are rounded up from the wild every year and those deemed to many are sent to the slaughterhouse, they decided to adopt, tame and then later re-home them. An epic journey which makes a fascinating read!
