The search for my next Unicorn, that how she started the ad. Our very own podcasting adventuress is searching for her next Unicorn. In EQA podcast #92 Heather takes us on the journey to finding that perfect horse. Using social media and her friendship network she has open pandora’s box to see what she can find. She shares with us the high and lows of searching for your next equine best friend. While on this journey Heather receives some advice that helps define search, there are lots of ponies out there, now to find the perfect match.
Opening Pandora’s box
I had been scrolling through facebook when the for sale ad appeared. I hadn’t really been looking to buy a new horse just yet as it was still winter here in Canada. But there she was, the right age, size, temperament. I immediately messaged the owner asking for more detail. I got a response very quick with a detailed description of this mare, history… and then the magically words were written, she will be your next unicorn.
Well it was hook, line and sinking for me at that point. This woman was my soul sister if she is calling this horse a unicorn. Now I thought to myself I need to see this horse right away and get my husband on board. I had now opened Pandora’s box wide open, my heart was 100% in. After a few back and forth messages with the owner i started to form my plan to go see this mare. First find a day the weather is good, get horse trailer out of winter storage, plan my route ( the horse was 7 hr drive away) and see who will come with me. Then I get a notification from messenger, SOLD! That was it, no explanation, no thanks for your interest, nothing, I was heartbroken. So back to the drawing board.
Some good advice
One of my girlfriends suggested to me that I should a wish list together of what i wanted and post it on social media. There are lots of groups for selling and buying horses and it will increase my search region. Now that I have started looking i won’t stop until I find my next unicorn and give them all my love. My skin might have to get thicker and my negotiation skills tighten up but i will get there.
