Tipping, how much, how often, should you… Today’s podcast is all about tipping and the etiquette around it. This has to be the number one question that always comes up in discussion involving horse adventures. Anytime you receive a service tipping comes into play, whether it is your hairdresser, the guy that fills your car, or the amazing guide on your horse adventure. Doing some pre-trip research will allow you to know what that countries policy is, how much is considered appropriate, and how it varies from country to country.

Tipping
When you receive good service we generally leave anywhere from 15-20% When it comes to tipping on a horse tour what do you tip? The general rule is about $10 to 20$ per day. Those funds are divided amongst the host, guide or guides, the cook, the person who who cooks the food and everyone back at the stables that help in the background. In a lot of places as riders we don’t see half of the people that make your horse tour/safari run.
Some good advice when it comes to tipping is to have cash in the currency of that country. Something that I like to do in addition to cash is to take some traditional items from my home country Canada. I’ve taken items such as maple syrup, canadian pins, necklaces with the maple leaf and even ice wine. These tips are always welcomed as the guides love to learn about their guest home countries.
